Recently, an extraordinary donation handover took place at Treyer Paletten in Bad Peterstal. After 38 years, Bernd and Inge Rendler officially retired from the board of the Support Association for Children with Cancer in Freiburg due to age. This marked their "final official act," which held special significance for both parties involved.
25 years ago, during a sports event, Albert Hoferer and Bernd Rendler first crossed paths. Their discussion centered on the unsatisfactory conditions in the pediatric oncology ward at the University Children’s Hospital in Freiburg. The successful entrepreneur not only made a spontaneous donation of 10,000 DM but also visited the hospital with his wife Inge to assess the situation and understand how funds were being used. The fact that the entire board of the Support Association worked entirely on a volunteer basis and that every cent was dedicated to the cause convinced Albert Hoferer and his wife to support the organization in the long term. From then on, the motto at Treyer Paletten became: "Donations instead of gifts." This commitment extended beyond financial contributions, as Albert Hoferer joined the association's advisory board and has actively supported the globally renowned and highly successful research work of Prof. Charlotte Niemeyer.
Over the years, the donations added up to an incredible €255,000. "Without this consistent support, many things would not have been possible," Bernd Rendler remarked in his thank-you speech. The next generation in company leadership, Albert’s son Dirk and his wife Sandra, has long embraced this mission. As long as the business situation allows, they plan to continue their social engagement. The quarter-million-euro donation has enabled the association to maintain support for affected families, allowing them to stay close to their critically ill children. Currently, the association records over 2,000 overnight stays at the parents’ house each month.
