Albert Hoferer - 60 years in the company

It was not easy for Albert Hoferer 60 years ago when, practically overnight at the age of just 25, he took over the management of the company TREYER PALETTEN. Two years earlier, the son of the company’s founder, Tilo Treyer, and designated successor, had tragically died in an industrial accident, threatening the continuation of the company.
Although Albert Hoferer had already worked for two years in his father-in-law Hubert Treyer’s business, it was still not easy for Inge and Albert Hoferer to lead the company through the challenging structural upheavals following his sudden death.
At that time, Treyer produced wooden fan boxes for the beverage industry in Bad Peterstal in the Black Forest. However, in the mid-1960s, the "end" came unexpectedly for the wooden beverage crates, as they became unusable for the ever faster filling lines in the beverage industry. Plastic replaced wood. The young entrepreneur and his wife had to not only switch to a different product but also reorient the company towards a new customer base.
In 1974, Albert Hoferer invested in the first nail machine and organized the efficient, semi-automated production of wooden pallets. He gradually transformed the former crate factory into a modern pallet production facility. The successful development of the company justified this decision.
With foresight, Albert Hoferer and his wife Inge, and from July 1994 together with their son Dirk, successfully led the company, which today is one of the market leaders in the pallet industry in Germany. It is a thriving family business that has flourished in Bad Peterstal.
Just as company founder Hubert Treyer volunteered in the Beverage Crate Industry Association in the 1950s and 1960s, Albert Hoferer was also involved in technical committees of the pallet industry. He served for many years on the board of the Gütegemeinschaft Paletten e.V. and the HPE (Federal Association of Wooden Packaging, Pallets, and Export Packaging e.V.). He was also one of the initiators of the founding of the EPAL (European Pallet Association), whose president is now his son Dirk Hoferer.
On December 19, 2019, Albert Hoferer was hit by his greatest tragedy when he lost his beloved wife Inge, who unexpectedly lost her battle with cancer.
Albert Hoferer still works daily at his desk. His experience and advice are highly valued by the employees at Treyer Paletten.
